Laminated Shims

Thickness of shims made from laminated shim stock can be adjusted in the field by peeling off one layer of lamination a time. Following description of the laminated shim material is based on AMS-DTL-22499 (formerly MIL-S-22499). Other specifications include BOEING BACS40- series, BELL 120- series, LOCKHEED/BOEING 5PTC series, VOUGHT NORTHROP GRUMMAN GS and CVC series.

Type 1 - All Laminations
Type 2 - One-half Solid Stock
Type 3 - Three-fourths Solid Stock
Class 1 - .002" Laminations
Class 2 - .003" Laminations
Material (Composition 1): Aluminum
Alloy 1100 conforming to QQ-A-250/1, temper H19 or
Alloy 5052 conforming to QQ-A-250-8, temper H19 or H39
Material (Composition 2): Brass
Brass conforming to QQ-B-613, Composition 2, Temper 1/4 hard or harder
Material (Composition 3): Stainless Steel
Grade 302 Stainless Steel conforming to QQ-S-766 , Class 302, Condition A or
Grade 302 Stainless Steel conforming to MIL-S-5059 , Composition 302, Condition A
Material (Composition 4): Carbon Steel
carbon steel conforming to QQ-S-698 / ASTM A568, tempered or annealed condition.
Other material includes Composition 5/Titanium Alloy and Composition 6 / Polyimide.
